DMEF 2011 Conference in Boston, MA
The research summit of the DMEF precedes the DMA 2011 conference. It is to stimulate research in direct/interactive marketing topics. In this blogpost I will be highlighting some of the presentations I particularly liked. This is by no means an ‘objective’ view, just my personal one. There were four parallel sessions (except of the keynotes).
Mr. Shigeru Ota (from Japan) presented some interesting research about Twitter. He investigated which phases of the consumer decision-making process Twitter is used for most. Below you find one of his slides, summarizing his results at the industry level.

Then, it was our turn to present our research titled: “Learning to Active Learn with Applications in the Online Advertising Field of Look-Alike Modeling” by (see picture below from left to right: James Shanahan, Nedim Lipka & Dirk Van den Poel).
During lunch (of the second day), Katie Delahaye Paine (CEO and Founder, KDPaine & Partners LLC) talked about the new metrics of social media. She argued that “old metrics” have to be replaced (see pictures below).
In the afternoon, Dr. Scott Thompson (see picture below) gave some great tips when doing online data collection.
After these interesting academic sessions, we visited the DMA 2011 exhibit hall. We look forward to some interesting sessions during the coming days...
